Featured Artist May 2009- Glendive, Montana photographer Dorothy Sturlaugson
Dorothy Sturlaugson was born and raised in Billings, Montana. She graduated from
Billings Senior High School and attended the Eastern Montana College and the University of Montana. She later
attended and graduated from the Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis. She moved to Glendive in 1981 to
work for KXGN TV as the News Director. It was at KXGN where she met her husband Paul, later married and today has
three children.
She discovered her ambition for photography through her family. She remarked that with children she learned to
photograph everything they did, until one day she noticed she had box after box of photographs. In 1996 she
took a job at Washington Middle School in Glendive as the Annual Advisor. This position was all about photography and
creating eternal memories for the students through photos and designing and publishing the annual Yearbook.
Dorothy received a lot of encouragment from family and friends and later began to explore sports photography,
senior pictures, weddings and reunions. She has since started dabbling in digital photography and software/ image
editing software to add a new dimension to her work. Today she owns and operates "The Right Impression Photography", her own
business located in Glendive.
