Featuring the original works of Shirley Larsen of Glendive, Montana.
Shirley was born in North Dakota but moved to Glendive, Montana in 1969. She attended
Dakota Lutheran High School in Minot, North Dakota, and graduated from Minot State University with a degree in
Elementary ducation in 1975.
She began her career in art as child where she enjoyed drawing paper dolls and
designing paper clothing for them. She continued her interests in art in high school and was the art editor for her
school annual as a senior. She also sought private classes with many Montana artists, including Floyd Smith, Jackie Schultz,
Bernadine Fox, Bob Watts, Helene Thayes and Marilyn Hughes.
Shirley started using oil as her preferred medium but later moved to using acrylics and
watercolor. She enjoys painting flowers the most, but also landscapes and rustic farm scenes. She particularly enjoys
painting mountains. Shirley is an active member of the Dawson County Arts Unlimited Gallery in Glendive and has her
work displayed here, as well as the Cloudcraft Arts and Gifts Gallery located in Cloudcraft, New Mexico. She has also
participated in a number of regional juried shows, including those at the Mondak Heritage Center in Sidney, Montana.
