Featured Artist for December 2009- Circle, Montana Artist Joyce Schriver
Joyce was raised and educated in Circle, Montana, where she married and lives
today with her "high school sweetheart", Don.
Joyce has said that as far back as she can remember she loved to draw. Many times she would see a sunset, flower
or animal and her fingers would itch to be able to paint what she was seeing. Art was not taught in the school
system at that time. She had no experience in painting and it was very frustrating not knowing how to paint
or even how to start. In the late 1960’s an artist moved to Circle and offered painting classes. She jumped
at the opportunity to take these lessons, and this is what got her started.
Joyce was inspired and motivated by several individuals she met who were interested in art. This group,
including Joyce, established the Sagebrush Art Club. Through this club many artists were brought in to teach watercolor, oil and
acrylic painting. Joyce received no formal training except through these lessons and has self-taught herself through videos,
books and a lot of practice. Her newest passion is sand carving with a sandblaster and engraver on glass, eggs and rock.
